Phyllis Jobes
Registered Yoga Teacher

My love of nature and my desire to pursue a healthy lifestyle led me to an informal study of Yoga in the early 70's.  From the books I read, I developed my own home practice.  Then, in 1991, after returning from a long hike on the Appalachian Trail, I sought out a Yoga teacher.  At my first class I immediately knew Yoga would be a primary focus in my life.

I taught Yoga rather informally until 2000, when I attended the Integral Yoga Institute in Virginia to become a certified Yoga  teacher.  This required a one month total immersion in yogic lifestyle under the guidance of Sri Swami Satchidananda.  I furthered my Yoga education by spending another month on the banks of the Ganges River in India with the Himalayan Institute attending the Maha Kumbha Mela.

My experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse influenced me to study Structural Yoga Therapy for a year with Mukunda Stiles, as well as to complete the certification course to teach Cardiac Yoga to those with or at risk for heart disease with Dr. Mala Cunningham.  In addition, I studied "How Yoga Heals" with Dr. Rich Pannico, M.D.  All of this qualified me to teach the stress management sessions for the Blue Cross, Blue Shield's Dr. Ornish Program to prevent and/or reverse heart disease.

My yogic and nursing training and experiences have moved me to create a teaching approach that provides the time for the student to feel each phase of moving into a posture, allowing adaptation of the posture to meet the individual's needs while  maintaining the integrity of the pose.  My ultimate goal is to motivate the student to establish a daily Yoga practice which ensures continuous personal growth, a sense of well-being and peace of mind as well as increased strength and flexibility.

Lisa Vandevort-Crist
Registered Yoga Teacher

I found yoga, or yoga found me, on September 11, 2001.  It was my way of finding a sense of safety and peace in the chaos…and I have not had a day without my yoga practice, since.   In a small way, something positive did happen on that day.  It is such a gift to find a passion that changes your life, and an even greater gift to be able to share that passion with others.
My style of practice and teaching is very eclectic and intuitive.   I believe that each student and each moment is unique.  And so, I draw from the many teachers with whom I have had the privilege of studying.  I have been so fortunate to experience very diverse styles and philosophies of yoga as far away as London, Santa Monica, Chicago, Pittsburgh and, most intimately, right here at the YomaRoom.  I consider Phyllis and Cathy to be my strongest influences.
I hope you will consider joining me for yoga.

Namaste~

Lisa Williams
In hindsight Lisa Williams began her journey on this path back in elementary school where her physical education class was a yoga class directed towards children. Having studied the philosophy on her own the next step was to take classes to further her interests and to eventually be able to help people help themselves on all three levels. In 2005 she took a 14 month course from the Temple of Kriya Yoga out of Chicago. Her studies included all 8 limbs of yoga with a focus on pranayama (breathing), asana (poses) and dhyana (meditation). Lisa is a certified hatha yoga instructor and registered with the Yoga Alliance. She has a strong emphasis on alignment and safety in her classes. She spends a little more time setting up and working a pose and working with props if needed. Her style is more in the Iyengar way. Lisa prefers for students to wear clothing that allows her to see the knees and shoulders for proper alignments. She teaches complete beginners, and intermediate students.

Hatha yoga is not a sport or competition. Flexibility is only a side effect of the practice, it is not a criteria.

Holding your mind in a state of Santosha, being completely content with were You are at this moment is an important part of hatha yoga.

Becky Andrew
Reiki Practitioner
A few years ago I found myself spinning out of control with the stress; overcommitted and running myself into the ground emotionally, physically and mentally.  I was tired, irritable, depressed and strung out. I knew it was time to make some serious changes in my life and decided to start taking Yoga classes.  Yoga has been a life-changing experience for me. It opened a whole new world of stress relief and spiritual awakening. I  developed a daily meditation practice, studied Tai Chi and was introduced to Reiki. Reiki energy  was nothing short of amazing to me.  I really had no expectations and frankly was a little sceptical but open to the experience. The feeling of relaxation, peace and love continued throughout that day and into the next.  The subject of Reiki came up in a number of conversationsin the following weeks - sometimes seemingly out of the blue.

Months later, I was surfing the internet and came upon a Reiki I/II class. I knew I had to attend that class. I am a certified Reiki Master Practitioner and a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals.

Pete Pedersen
Pete Pedersen is a Cellular Expansion and Healing (CE) practitioner.  As a cancer survivor, he has developed a deep interest in complimentary and alternative medicine modalities to support his healing process.  This exploration led to experiencing CE first as a client, and then, after several years of training, as a practitioner.  Mr. Pedersen has supported clients working through chronic illness, injury, trauma, and personality transformation.
CE is a hands-on mind-body healing modality.  Healing is supported at the level of the cells.  Extending energy to the cells facilitates transformation of the cause of disease.  CE sessions are typically 35 to 45 minutes long.  Sessions revolve around the client’s intention.  Work is gentle and comfortable.  Clients experience deep relaxation.  Long held physical and emotional patterns are given the opportunity to unwind.
